How to Use the Hang’s Studio UV Lamp Head: Adjusting the Light Spot and Handling the Lens Assembly

The Hang’s Studio UV/LED lamp head allows you to adjust the illuminated area from a small, concentrated spot to a wider beam, helping lash technicians match the coverage to the adhesive area being treated.

The internal optical lens system directs the light beam, while the replaceable lamp head supports maintenance and long-term use. The guiding principle is: the right area – the right distance – the right exposure time – the right adhesive.

How to Adjust the Light Spot Size

The front of the lamp head features a grooved metal adjustment section. Turning this section changes the size of the illuminated area while the lens assembly remains attached.

To adjust the light spot:

  1. Hold the lamp head steady: Support the upper part of the head to minimise movement during adjustment.
  2. Gently rotate the front adjustment section: Make small adjustments while observing the light spot on the work surface.
  3. Select suitable coverage: Widen or narrow the light spot to match the adhesive area being treated.
  4. Check the result: Stop turning and check the position and size of the illuminated area.

How to Create a Smaller, More Concentrated Light Spot

When working with a small adhesive area, turn the front adjustment section gradually until the light spot is suitably narrow. You can reduce the spot size without removing the lens assembly.

For classic lash extensions, a concentrated spot helps direct light towards the adhesive at the attachment point. For volume fans, coverage should match the adhesive area at the fan base; using more lash fibres does not automatically require a wider light spot.

Choose the coverage according to the position and size of the adhesive area that needs curing. A wider light spot does not automatically mean more effective curing.

The Role of the Internal Lens Assembly

The optical lens system inside the lamp head directs and concentrates light towards the area where the adhesive needs to polymerise. The front optical assembly controls light distribution, allowing a more concentrated or wider illuminated area.

Removing the front lens assembly visibly changes the shape and width of the light spot. However, removing it is not necessary for routine spot-size adjustment and should not be treated as a way to widen the beam for use on clients.

The removal and refitting demonstrations below help identify the optical components and illustrate how they fit together. When performing these operations, follow Hang’s Studio’s technical instructions for your specific product version.

Refitting the Lens Assembly and Adjusting the Light Spot

To refit the assembly, hold the lamp head steady, position the lens assembly at the front of the head and rotate it into place. Once it is refitted, the front adjustment section can again be used to change the light spot size.

It is important to distinguish between the front lens assembly and the complete lamp head. Removing or refitting the lens assembly involves an optical component; replacing the complete lamp head is a separate procedure.

The Right Area – The Right Distance – The Right Exposure Time – The Right Adhesive

Adjustable coverage helps control where the light reaches the work area. To support adhesive curing, consider all four factors:

  • The right area: Direct the light towards the adhesive that needs curing and select suitable coverage.
  • The right distance: Use the distance specified for your particular lamp and adhesive combination. Changing the distance can affect both the spot size and the irradiance at the adhesive.
  • The right exposure time: Follow the exposure time confirmed for the adhesive and operating conditions. Do not shorten it simply because the spot appears more concentrated or brighter.
  • The right adhesive: Use a light-curing adhesive compatible with the lamp system. Do not assume that every lash adhesive is suitable for UV/LED curing.

Actual curing performance depends on wavelength, irradiance at the adhesive, distance, exposure time and the compatible adhesive formulation.

Visible brightness or purple colour is not a measurement of irradiance at the adhesive and cannot confirm that the adhesive has fully cured. The time the lamp remains on in the demonstrations is also not a recommended adhesive curing time.
