You'd probably think they were created by two completely different people.

Not because I lacked passion back then.

But because I lacked experience.

When I first started, I believed that completing a lash course meant I had become a lash artist.

The longer I've worked in this industry, the more I've realized that a training course is simply the starting point.

What's interesting is that people usually only see the end result.

A fully booked salon.

An appointment calendar filled weeks in advance.

Beautiful lash sets shared on social media.

Very few people see everything that happened before those moments.

If you're considering becoming a lash artist today, here's the journey that, in my experience, most professionals go through.

Stage 1: Learning the Fundamentals

This is where everything begins.

You'll learn about:

• Natural lash anatomy
• Different types of lash extensions
• Curl patterns, thicknesses, and lengths
• Lash adhesives
• Hygiene and sanitation
• Safety during lash application

This is also the stage where you first pick up your tweezers.

Believe me.

No one holds tweezers perfectly on day one.

I certainly didn't.

There were days when I dropped my tweezers more often than I successfully picked up an extension.

And that's completely normal.

Stage 2: Practice More Than You Study

This is where many beginners become impatient.

After finishing a course, everyone wants to start working immediately.

But your hands often need much more time than your mind.

At this stage, instead of searching for another course or another tutorial, I usually encourage students to spend more time practicing.

Practice.

Repeat.

Do the same technique again and again.

Because lash artistry is a craft built on muscle memory.

Eventually, your hands begin to know what to do before your brain has to think about every movement.

That's when real progress begins.

Stage 3: Working on Real Models

This is often the most intimidating step.

Practicing on a mannequin and working on a real person are two completely different experiences.

Clients blink.

Some like to chat.

Some unexpectedly open their eyes.

Some have ideal natural lashes.

Others present unique challenges.

No textbook can prepare you for every situation.

Only real experience can.

That's why I always recommend practicing on volunteer models before accepting paying clients.

Every model teaches you something new.

Stage 4: Learning How to Care for Clients

There's something interesting I've noticed.

Many people spend hundreds of hours learning technical skills.

But very little time learning how to serve clients.

The truth is, beautiful lashes are only one reason clients return.

The other reason is how you make them feel.

Clients remember:

• Whether your recommendations suited them.
• Whether your hands felt gentle.
• Whether your salon felt clean and comfortable.
• Whether they felt listened to.

A great lash artist doesn't simply create beautiful lashes.

They create an experience that clients want to return to.

Stage 5: Finding Your Own Style

When you're new, it's completely natural to save inspiration from Instagram or Pinterest.

I did exactly the same.

But after several years, I realized I couldn't spend my entire career trying to become someone else.

Every lash artist gradually develops their own signature style.

Some become known for natural Classic sets.

Others specialize in dramatic Volume.

Some love soft, elegant designs.

Others create bold, defined looks.

This is the moment when you stop copying.

And start creating.

Stage 6: Never Stop Learning

One reason I've stayed passionate about this profession is that it never stands still.

New lash products appear.

New adhesives are developed.

New styling trends emerge every year.

Even after more than a decade in the industry, I still attend training courses.

I still learn from fellow artists.

I still experiment with new techniques.

Not because I don't know enough.

But because I always want to keep improving.

Don't Just Aim to Become a Lash Artist

If I could send one message to the version of myself who was just starting, it would be this:

"Don't just learn how to apply lashes."

Learn how to become a professional.

That means:

• Being punctual.
• Maintaining impeccable hygiene.
• Being honest with your clients.
• Continuing to learn.
• Treating every client with genuine respect.

Technical skills help you create beautiful lashes.

Professionalism builds a lasting career.

Success Doesn't Come After One Course

Social media often makes success look incredibly fast.

A 30-second video.

A lash set completed in a few hours.

A fully booked salon.

But behind those images are usually thousands of hours of practice that nobody sees.

So if you're just beginning and feel like your progress is slow...

Don't worry too much.

Almost every lash artist you admire today once felt exactly the same.

No one starts by creating perfect lash sets.

Final Thoughts

In my opinion, becoming a professional lash artist is never a straight path.

Some days you'll improve faster than you expected.

Other days it may feel like nothing is changing.

That's completely normal.

The most important thing is that you pick up your tweezers again tomorrow.

And the day after that.

And many more days after.

Because in the end, a professional lash artist isn't created by one course.

Or by one certificate.

They're built through hundreds of lash sets, thousands of hours of practice, and years of persistence.
