How to Build an Instagram Account as a Lash Artist: You Don't Need to Be an Influencer to Get Clients

One of the biggest misconceptions I see among new lash artists is this:

They believe that before Instagram can bring them clients, they need to know how to:

  • Take perfect photos.
  • Film beautiful videos.
  • Edit content professionally.
  • Create trendy Reels.
  • Follow every new trend.
  • And ideally have thousands of followers.

Just thinking about all of that is enough to feel overwhelmed.

If that's how you're feeling right now, I have some good news.

Most of those things aren't what clients care about the most.

Especially in the European market.

Instagram isn't a competition to see who has the prettiest account.

It's simply a place where potential clients look for the answer to one question:

"Can I trust this person?"

You Don't Need the Perfect Instagram Account to Get Started

Many students postpone creating an Instagram account because they tell themselves:

"I'll start once I'm better."

"I'll wait until I have more beautiful photos."

"I'll create it after I've worked with more clients."

But if everyone waited for the perfect moment...

Nobody would ever begin.

Your Instagram account doesn't have to be perfect on day one.

It simply has to exist.

You can start with something as simple as:

  • A clear profile photo.
  • An easy-to-remember username.
  • A short description of your services.
  • The city where you work.
  • Clear booking information.

That's enough.

Everything else can grow naturally over time.

Don't Feel Like You Have to Post Every Day

This is one of the biggest reasons people give up.

They decide they'll post every single day.

After one week, they run out of ideas.

After two weeks, they stop posting altogether.

In my experience, consistency matters much more than frequency.

If you can post twice a week for six months, that's far better than posting every day for two weeks and then disappearing.

Instagram appreciates consistency.

So do your clients.

You Don't Need an Expensive Camera

One of the questions I hear most often is:

"Do I need to buy a professional camera?"

My answer is almost always:

Not yet.

Today's smartphones are already more than capable of producing beautiful portfolio photos.

The quality of a lash photo usually depends far more on:

  • Good natural lighting.
  • A clean shooting angle.
  • A simple background.
  • Properly brushed lashes before taking the photo.

Some of my favorite portfolio pictures were taken with nothing more than a phone.

Don't let your equipment become an excuse for waiting.

Don't Only Post Finished Lash Sets

If your Instagram feed only shows completed lash sets, after a while every post begins to look the same.

Clients may also struggle to remember you.

Instead, try sharing small moments from your everyday work.

For example:

  • Your workspace.
  • How you disinfect your tools.
  • The tea or coffee you prepare for clients.
  • A cozy corner of your salon.
  • Your appointment book.
  • A day spent learning a new technique.

These posts aren't about showing off.

They're about helping people get to know the person behind your business.

In Europe, this often creates a much stronger connection than many artists realize.

Write Like You're Talking to One Person

Many people become nervous every time they need to write a caption.

They try to sound extremely professional.

Very "marketing."

The result often feels more like an advertisement than a conversation.

Before I publish almost any post, I ask myself one simple question:

"If this client were sitting in front of me, how would I explain this?"

Then I write exactly that way.

Simple.

Natural.

Honest.

Clients aren't looking for complicated words.

They're looking for a real person.
